Yoni Steam Q&A

So, what is a Yoni Steam?

Well, a Yoni Steam is just another term for vaginal steaming, which describes the process of a woman sitting over a bowl of herbs while they "cook" in water. It sounds simple, and for the most part it is, but the benefits are amazing!

How does it work?

The steam is effective by mixing gentle heat and moisture allowing medicinal plant oils to be absorbed by the exterior tissue of the Yoni. These tissues are very permeable and absorbent. The medicinal properties are then absorbed through the bloodstream and carried into the tissues of the body, particularly the reproductive system.

What are the ingredients?

Natural herbs and water. Both are partners with nature and do not contain any toxins, chemicals, preservatives or additives.

For our deluxe and basic steams, we use a herbal blend that cleanses the uterus, increases self love, and supports good hormonal health. Our blends used for specialty steams vary according to the needs associated with the desired outcome. These steams can address infertility, low libido (sex drive), endometriosis, menopause, fibroids, cysts, odor, and painful menstrual cramps. Additional blends can be made for other challenges upon request.

What are the benefits?

Benefits may include: Improves vaginal dryness, balances hormones, increases circulation in the uterus, expels parasites, weight loss, relieves excess menstrual bleeding, tones and tightens uterus, shrinks fibroids, decreases inflammation, fertility, releases stress, immense relaxation

At which age can one began steaming?

Once a woman has begun her menstrual cycle, she is able to steam for as long as she would like!

Can I steam at home?

Yes, you can. However, it is important that you are knowledgeable about proper temperatures, materials and herbs. If you plan to steam using the bowl-in-toilet method, please note the herbs will only be steeping and not actually "cooking" once you remove them from the heat source so the window of time to get the benefits is shorter. While herbs are natural, the effectiveness of the steam can be minimized if the proper herbs are not used. It is also important to know the proper times to steam. We advise that you do not steam at home unless you have done a good amount of research and feel very comfortable doing so. The Yoni Connection will be hosting a workshop for at-home steaming before the end of the year. Stay tuned!

What will I be provided with at my appointment?

You will have your own stool, gown, foot rests, socks, and a pillow. An eye-mask is available as an add-on for $4. Water and tea are available if desired. Relaxing music will be played with the option to listen to your own device.

What should I bring to the appointment?

An open mind, good energy, a journal (optional), and whatever else that you feel would make your session more enjoyable.

How long will the appointment last?

From start to finish, about 50 minutes if an intake form is completed electronically prior to the appointment, and 60 minutes if it completed the day of service.

How often can I steam?

As much as you would like unless the practitioner has suggested otherwise.

When is the best time to steam?

Before and after the bleeding ceremony of your menstrual cycle; When one is beginning a "new chapter" in life; When one is experiencing low creativity, self hate, or symptoms of depression; When one wants to reconnect with her body or rid it of negative energy; When one simply wants to feel relaxed.

What are your practices to ensure safety and sanitation?

We're glad you asked! The practitioner has been certified as a Yoni Steam Practitioner and Womb Wellness Coach under the practice Feminine Roots (the owner of Feminine Roots has been providing the service for over 12 years). The practitioner trained for over 40 hours, including 8 hands- on hours with real clients. The practitioner studied on the practice of yoni steaming and other womb wellness practices for about one year before even pursuing the certification.

The stools are made of wood that has been treated, so it will not release any toxins once heat and moisture are involved. Each stool has a cushion that allows it to be cleaned thoroughly after each steam. We use all natural cleaners free of chemicals and toxins. The gowns are water resistant to decrease the build up of fluids.  Each gown is submerged in water and a mild sanitizing solution immediately after each use and then washed using fragrance free detergent. Since the skin is our number organ, we want to always make sure it is wrapped in love.
